It is a good idea to have a friend or relative come with you.
Some people come together and help each other. One person has surgery and is looked after by the other and then a few days later they change roles and the second person has surgery.
This helps when traveling back because someone can help with your bags. It is safer because someone you are close to can keep an eye on you. You also will feel less isolated and depressed afterwards.
It is nice to have someone who can go to the store for you, after surgery when you may be sore, bruised and bandaged.
It is always good to have someone you can speak to in your own language. Unless you are fluent it is very tiring to speak in a foreign language all the time, especially when recovering from an operation.
You should get your medicine before surgery, perhaps from your doctor at home. Most people need painkillers, antibiotics, and a sleeping tablet or tranquilizer like Valium. It is a good idea to have an anti-nausea pill, or suppository, available.um.
